What is the difference between biweekly and semi-monthly pay? +
Biweekly means paid every two weeks — 26 paychecks per year. Two months each year will have 3 paychecks. Semi-monthly means paid twice per month on set dates (e.g., the 1st and 15th) — exactly 24 paychecks per year. For a $52,000 salary: biweekly paycheck = $2,000; semi-monthly = $2,166.67.
How is overtime pay calculated? +
Under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), non-exempt employees must receive overtime pay at 1.5× their regular rate for hours worked over 40 per week. Some states (like California) also require daily overtime for hours over 8 in a day. Example: $20/hr regular × 1.5 = $30/hr overtime rate.
