What counts as a business day? +
A standard business day is any weekday (MondayβFriday) that is not a public holiday. In the US this typically means excluding the 11 federal holidays. Some industries and contracts define business days differently β for example, financial markets follow their own holiday calendar (NYSE closes on different days than federal offices). Legal contracts often specify "business days" in their definitions section.
How do I count business days for a contract deadline? +
For contract deadlines, start counting from the day AFTER the triggering event (the start date is Day 0). If the deadline falls on a weekend or holiday, it typically rolls to the next business day. Always check your specific contract language β some contracts specify "calendar days" not "business days," which includes weekends and holidays. Consult a lawyer for legal deadlines.
